My Summary

My name is Isaac Rex–I am a student of electrical engineering at Iowa State University. I have been passionate about electronics design ever since my first Arduino project. I had been restoring my 1984 Camaro (another one of my passions) when I decided I wanted to do unique mods that I could only achieve if I learned more about electronics. This started me down the EE path.

I have worked multiple jobs throughout the last 6 years: I started working for Dean Rex Construction doing manual labor, operating and repairing heavy equipment (like dump trucks, dozers, and excavators), and working directly with customers. After I moved to Colorado, I started working for Denver Beverage servicing and repairing soda and juice machines for restaurants, bars, and nursing homes. As the single service tech for the entire Colorado Springs area, I was also responsible for picking up slack on deliveries and working directly with customers on needs and issues. After a year and a half, I left this job to return to college.

During college I have had two mid-semester jobs and one internship. During Spring 2019 I was a TA for our Circuits II class. During Fall of 2019 I worked as a student design engineer for the department that helps design and maintain the Universities teaching labs. Over Summer 2019, I interned at Garmin in their automotive OEM department. I worked on high speed serializer/deserializer (SerDes) interfaces, doing a complete design from specs to completion.

My ultimate goal is to own a job shop for designing electronics and mechanics. I would like to offer a service where people can come for custom repairs and builds of unique items. My favorite things to do is problem solve and create new and useful things, so I think this goal fits nicely in to my passions. I have some experience working with machine shop tools (lathes, milling machines, precision measurement instruments, etc.) and plan to start building a stocked shop as soon as I graduate. In the meantime, I would love to work as a design engineer for a good company with strong ethics and appreciation for excellent design.

My expected graduation date for my bachelor degree is Fall 2020.

I have done a plethora of projects over the years, some of which can be seen on the right or on my projects page.
