CyDAQ: A Senior Design Project

My group’s senior design project is a learning tool for Iowa State’s signals and systems sequence. We found that students struggle with the difficult concepts taught in these schools and part of the struggle is that all the labs were done entirely in MATLAB with little connection to real world application. Our goal is to deliver a complete learning platform for the classes. This includes the hardware, software, and lab manuals.

My primary role is team meeting coordinator, lead communications, and hardware engineer. I make sure that meetings happen when they are supposed to and keep them on topic. I also handle most of the communications with faculty and advisors and ensure everybody in the group is kept in loop. Lastly, I help develop the hardware portion of the deliverables.

The main knowledge I have gained so far is a perspective. I now look at both the information I learned in this class and teaching in general from a different perspective. The project has forced me to think about how to teach difficult concepts so that it is intuitive and as easy as possible to understand. This is not an easy task!

The hope is that this project will contribute to the school by helping future students to understand the fundamental concepts of electrical engineering by helping them to connect theory to practicality and giving them the opportunity to exercise their design skills.
